Cloud Ingredients and Formation

We all know what clouds are—visible collections of tiny water droplets (or ice crystals if its cold enough) that live high in the atmosphere above the Earths surface. But do you know how a cloud forms? In able for a cloud to form, several ingredients must be in place: watercooling air temperaturea surface to form on (nuclei) Once these ingredients are in place, they follow this process to form a cloud: Step 1: Change Water Vapor into Liquid Water Although we cant see it, the first ingredient -- water -- is always present in the atmosphere as  water vapor (a gas). But in order to grow a cloud, we need to get the water vapor from a gas to its liquid form. Clouds begin to form when a parcel of air rises from the surface up into the atmosphere. (Air does this in a number of ways, including being lifted up mountainsides, lifted up weather fronts, and being pushed together by converging air masses.) As the parcel ascends, it passes through lower and lower pressure levels (since pressure decreases with height). Recall that air tends to move from higher to lower pressure areas, so as the parcel travels into lower pressure areas, the air inside of it pushes outward, causing it to expand. It takes heat energy for this expansion to take place, and so the air parcel cools a bit. The further upward the air parcel travels, the more it cools. Cool air cant hold as much water vapor as warm air, so when its temperature cools down to the dew point temperature, the water vapor inside of the parcel becomes saturated (its relative humidity equals 100%) and condenses into droplets of liquid water. But by themselves, water molecules are too small to stick together and form cloud droplets. They need a larger, flatter surface on which they can collect. Step 2: Give Water Something to Sit on (Nuclei) In able for water droplets to form cloud droplets,  they must have something—some surface—to condense  on. Those somethings are tiny particles known as aerosols or  condensation nuclei. Just like the nucleus is the core or center of a cell in biology, cloud nuclei, are the centers of cloud droplets, and it is from this that they take their name. (Thats right, every cloud has a speck of dirt, dust, or salt at its center!) Cloud nuclei are solid particles like dust, pollen, dirt, smoke (from  forest fires, car exhaust, volcanoes, and coal-burning furnaces, etc.), and sea salt (from breaking ocean waves)  that are suspended in the air thanks to Mother Nature and us humans who put them there. Other particles in the atmosphere, including bacteria, can also play a role in serving as condensation nuclei. While we usually think of them as pollutants, they serve a key role in growing clouds because theyre hygroscopic—they attract water molecules. Step 3: A Cloud is Born! It is at this point—when water vapor condenses and settles onto condensation nuclei—that clouds form and become visible. (Thats right, every cloud has a speck of dirt, dust, or salt at its center!) Newly formed clouds will often have crisp, well-defined edges. The type of cloud and altitude (low, middle, or high) it forms at is determined by the level where an air parcel becomes saturated. This level changes based on things like temperature, dew point temperature, and how fast or slow the parcel cools with increasing elevation, known as lapse rate. What Makes Clouds Dissipate? If clouds form when water vapor cools and condenses, it only makes sense that they dissipate when the opposite happens—that is, when the air warms and evaporates. How does this happen? Because the atmosphere is always in motion, drier air follows behind the rising air so that both condensation and evaporation continually occur. When theres more evaporation taking place than condensation, the cloud will return once again become invisible moisture. Now that you know how clouds form in the atmosphere, learn to simulate cloud formation by making a cloud in a bottle. Edited by Tiffany Means

War and Modernism Poems During the Earky 1900s Essay

During the tumultuous early 1900s, many poems were written on the horrors both heard of and encountered first hand. Some poets, like William Butler Yeats, wrote about the horrors of rebellion they encountered; others, like Wilfred Owen, were part of the dreadful World War I and were urged by their memories to start writing (â€Å"Wilfred Owen†). Both were part of the modernist movement, of which Yeats is often regarded as one of the founders. Modernism was a movement that outstretched literature and poetry, yet provided a new amount of freedom for war poets, as it allowed them to express themselves in the modernist fashion of free forms and room for criticism on the modern world (Matterson). William Butler Yeats’ â€Å"The Second Coming†, is an†¦show more content†¦While the poem does rhyme, it was freely written in the way the poet felt was most fitting. Secondly, this poem is fitting for the Modernist movement because it expresses what millions of peop le might have felt after the soldiers started shooting each other and all hell broke loose: it was the end of the world as they knew it. The part about the â€Å"millions of people† is important for this point, because Modernists like Yeats desired to move away from the personal towards the intellectual or collective. The poem criticizes the war by using cryptic images that are clear enough to convey their true meaning: Yeats was shocked at what had happened to his world. While Ireland was no part of the World War, the violent Easter Rising took place in 1916, when Ireland tried to break free from the British domination (â€Å"The 1916 Easter Rising†). Yeats, a Dubliner, was there to experience it himself. Wilfred Owen’s â€Å"Dulce et Decorum est†, on the other hand, did not paint a very poetic picture of the war; instead, it illustrates in a gruesome and to-the-point manner how horrible it was, while still fitting in with the Modernist movement. This po em tells in harsh words the story of young soldiers like Owen himself, who were stuck in the trenches when they were attacked with poison gas. One of them was not as lucky as the others and could not save himself in time. Nothing is left to the imagination in this poem. The image of the dying young man, choking at

Analysis Of Mama s Here Now - 1536 Words

How to Get Away with Murder Analysis When talking about television, one issue that often comes up is diversity, or the lack thereof. Many shows don’t feature a representative cast. That is not the case in How to Get Away with Murder, the hit show produced by Shonda Rhimes for ABC Network. The show goes beyond featuring a diverse cast; it features real, completely relatable characters. The combination of these factors and the abundance of drama are what make How to Get Away with Murder such a popular and wildly successful show, and in creating such a show, the producers have used its platform to bring social issues to the audience’s attention. In the episode chosen, â€Å"Mama’s Here Now,† aired on February 15, 2015, the back stories of several†¦show more content†¦This episode brings real life problems African Americans face to the public eye and won’t let the audience ignore it. The writers and producers of this show realize the influence they have and use it to identify many different social issues. The show How to Get Away with Murder includes characters of various ethnicities, backgrounds, and sexual orientations. Not only does the show make an attempt at diversity, though, it goes a step beyond that. The characters that are introduced and the backgrounds that are explored in this episode give the show depth. In many shows there is what is referred to as a â€Å"token minority.† An example of this can be seen quite clearly in the show, The Walking Dead. Take, for instance, the character of T-Dog. He was on the show for almost two entire seasons, (Are We Still†¦) and yet, was the only flat character to have made it that far. There were no dynamics to his character whatsoever, which was something that every other character on the show had at this point. To prove this point further, his â€Å"replacement† was introduced immediately before his death, so as not to upset any minorities watching, as well as to maintain the token minority presence on the show. In Ho w to Get Away with Murder, and specifically in the episode â€Å"Mama’s here now,† the writers step away from this idea and instead strengthen the backgrounds of the show’s main characters. The characters in How to Get Away with Murder are realistic and legitimate, each with an

Telling It Like It Is Essay - 3702 Words

Telling It Like It Is â€Å"My country, right or wrong,† is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, â€Å"My mother, drunk or sober.†Ã¢â‚¬â€G. K. Grief-stricken, angry, and shocked, people from all over America came together in the face of tragedy and solidly affirmed their pride in the U.S.A. The media largely agreed, in part because the request seemed reasonable, and in part because of the patriotic fever sweeping the nation. One news journalist, justifying the sensibility in restricting information, commented â€Å"Nobody wants to see the president hurt.†1 Historically, First Amendment rights have been highly disputed in cases of national security. In 1971, the right to publish disputed information was affirmed in the landmark Pentagon Papers case. A former Defense Department employee, Daniel Ellsberg, stole a copy of a document entitled â€Å"History of U.S. Decision Making Process on Vietnam Policy,† better known as the Pentagon Papers. Ethical Dilemma Of The Oil Spill - 2316 Words

Ethical Dilemma British petroleum has experienced a series of oil spill accidents since it was established, however, the 2010 oil spill was considered the worst oil spill accident in the company’s history. The drilling rig in the Deepwater Horizon exploded and killed 11 workers and released thousands of barrels of oil into the Gulf of Mexico (Arnold McKay 16). The accident affected different states along the coastline including Texas, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. The company did not consider corporate social responsibility important and hence it did not drill the oil in a s ustainable way to protect the stakeholders and the environment. Instead, the company considered profit making a priority instead of the safety of the stakeholders and the public (Arnold McKay 20). Whistle-blowers were laid off and intimidated if they exposed the company’s unethical activities. As a result, the company undertook many projects and it was focused on working on the frontiers and managing the risk. Besides, the organization protected itself from stakeholder who questioned the firm’s decision to take the risks. The executive managers did not entertain opposing views. In addition to that, failure to put in place safety measures and risk management policies contributed to the accident. The OSHA identified flaws in the company’s regulations after the explosion at the Texas oil refinery, but the firm did not address the issues. Instead, the organization continued to take risks and cut costs and violated the United States law in order to reduce the cost s of producing oil. Death Investigations and the Role of the Forensic Nurse free essay sample

Above all, realize that nursing care doesnt have to stop because a patient has expired. We can do so much more for people who suffered questionable deaths by focusing on forensics. Nurses can help families gain closure and assist law enforcement with their investigations because we have cared enough to maintain the integrity of the evidence. (Erricksen, 2008, p. 43) This quote from Debbie Rice, RN, NREMT, an emergency nurse at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, FL, could be used to help define the role of forensic nurses in death investigations. All nurses, first and foremost, must care for their patients. That caring does not end when the patient is dead, but can help the death investigator to the best job possible in assisting in investigating the cause and manner of death. DESCRIPTION AND RELEVANCE Death investigations around the United States vary greatly, depending on the structure of the presiding Medical Examiner or Coroner’s office – if one exists for the area. The International Association of Forensic Nurses website states, â€Å"Every state/county has different needs and resources, and every state/county may run death investigations with a different approach. What matters is that every effort be made to ensure a thorough, accurate, and timely investigation. A faulty cause of death determination can significantly impact surviving family members, agencies responsible for planning public health policy, civil or criminal action, and even public safety. † (Schindell, 2006) The possibility of forensic investigations may begin in first aid situations, or in the emergency department. The nurse’s first duty is to provide immediate care to the patient, but the nurse must also be prepared to preserve evidence for possible criminal investigations. (Dean Mulligan, 2009) This becomes mandatory in the situation where the patient dies. It is very important that evidence and information surrounding the death is preserved. The body should not be cleaned prior to transport to the morgue, and any tubes, IVs or other medical equipment should be left in place. The nurse on duty can be instrumental in making sure that everything remains as it was in order to make it easier for the medical examiner. The nurse must also be sure to document all procedures performed, including attempts to establish an IV, as well as noting all injury sites. (Erricksen, 2008, p. 40) Other investigations begin when a suspicious death is reported to the appropriate agency. The death investigator will go to the scene in order to collect evidence, photograph the area, and gather information regarding the environment and positioning of the body. The investigator will also question witnesses, family members, and law enforcement officials to gather more information regarding the victim, including past medical history, condition prior to death, circumstances leading up to the death, if known, and if the body has been moved. This would be followed by detailed investigation of the body, any clothing, and clues to medical conditions such as medic alert bracelets or presence of insulin pumps, etc. (McDonough, 2013) The forensic nurse can perform or assist with all of these duties, and must be careful and meticulous in writing reports of their findings. â€Å"The completion of good contemporaneous records may be vital to any statements of evidence that a nurse may be required to produce at a later date, to either the police or coroner. † (Dean Mulligan, 2009, p. 39) In many cases, if the primary investigator does not have medical training, the forensic nurse’s experience and knowledge can be invaluable. (Schindell, 2006) Forensic nurses can also apply information and practices from other areas to death investigations. Researchers in Alaska have determined that sex-related homicides can be difficult to properly identify, and may be under-reported for that reason. Calling upon the expertise of a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE), the researchers were able to apply standard techniques from sexual assault cases with living victims to investigations of homicides. These techniques, especially examination with a colposcope to identify anogenital injuries, were able to identify sexual assault related injuries, and to properly classify some homicides as being sex-related (Henry, 2009). Inclusion of forensic nurses in further sex-related homicides would be beneficial to law enforcement officials. â€Å"Forensic nurses have taken a leadership role in improving healthcare’s response to living victims of sexual assault and forensic pathologists and law enforcement would benefit from including a forensic nurse, specialized in sexual assault examinations, in the multidisciplinary response to deceased victims. † (Henry, 2009, p. 64) A qualified and trained forensic nurse can even act as the coroner if there is no medical examiner available. â€Å"In counties where non-medical Deputy Medical Examiners are being asked to conduct the majority of a death investigation, medical expertise should be readily accessible to them. A forensically trained nurse can be an ideal medical representative in these situations. † (Schindell, 2006) The primary goal of a death investigation is to determine the cause and manner of death. This can sometimes require detailed and painstaking investigation, not only of the immediate cause of death, but of possible comorbidities that may have contributed to the death. Forensic nurses that participate in, or conduct, death investigations may also be called upon to testify in court regarding their findings. When, or if, that happens, good recordkeeping on the part of the nurse becomes even more important. Also, it may be wise to seek the advice of an attorney or professional organization if this happens. (Dean Mulligan, 2009) It is imperative that the forensic nurse remain aware of advances made in forensic science and in legal issues pertinent to any investigations they may be involved in. CONCLUSION Forensic nurses are being used more and more in the role of death investigators. From providing medical care and first aid in the field or in the hospital while preserving evidence, to going to the scene of death and collecting detailed information and evidence, to performing autopsies and determining the cause of death, to testifying in court, forensic nurses with the relevant experience can be an important and integral part of legal system. With types of homicide occurring that can make use of the experience of the forensic nurse, in addition to traditional death investigations, forensic nurses can look forward to being more involved in all aspects of patient care, even after death. The Beginning of a Complex

Question: What would you do? What would you think? Would you tell people what you saw? Answer: What would I do? At first would be scared of what the individual was doing on the elevator. The scene of the event is scaring and would inquire of what the individual is doing all alone. My curiosity would get a better part of me and would ask what he is doing all along and why he is in the elevator. If the person refuses to tell me, l would get out of the elevator very fast because would not like to be caught up with whatever he was doing. What would I think? The first would think would the individual is either crazy or something is wrong with him. Looking closely would think is the art, since the events that surround him look as though it is just an act. If I would tell people of what I saw Definitely yes. The essence of such event needs to be shared to other so as to get them appreciate the art in more so in the times we live. This is so in that it has substantially changed over the times. Such an event demonstrate a performance art, it contains both the visual art and the drama more so where the tray with the pins and the sign written prick me. We all expect the individual to have the pins on him which are not the case. Such an experience ought to be remembered and to do so to share with others. Work Cited Aycock, Alice. Dependent and Source Independent Security †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Dependent and Source Independent Security. Answer: Introduction Technology has become an integral part of the organizations in the present times. There are several technical tools and software that have been launched in the market and are being used by the business units in all the parts of the globe. There are several methods through which these tools and software can be acquired. One of such methods is the use and implementation of open source software (OSS). There are several advantages of such software, such as no involvement of costs, immediate access, easy implementation etc[1]. However, there are also certain drawbacks and issues that the management needs to overcome with the use of open source software. The report discusses these issues from the perspective of the management and also covers the issues that may come up during the transition phase. A comparison between open source software and proprietary software has also been included in the report. Management suffers from a number of issues in adopting open source software. Some of these issues have been listed and explained below. There are a number of application platforms that are not compatible with the open source software. The management may face issues in terms of testing and launch of such software in the organization as an outcome of the compatibility issues. A detailed compatibility analysis along with the study of a large number of application platforms is required to be done to come up with an option that fulfills the compatibility criteria of the OSS. Pre-release review of a software is essential as it highlights the bugs and the areas of improvement in the software. The review of pre-release version of the open source software is difficult as the users know that the software will be available for free of cost at the time of the final release as well. This makes it difficult to attract the users to invest their time in the review of the pre-release version. It becomes necessary for the management to develop a marketing strategy in advance so that the market anticipation can be set up well among the users. There are numerous legal issues that may emerge in association with the open source software that are required to be handled by the management. Licenses that are associated with the open source software are in different forms. There are different terms and conditions that are included under all of these license types. For most of the licenses, it becomes necessary to disclose the source code[2]. Licenses Used for OSS There is a usage restriction that is applied on the software for the users who make use of the modified copies. Risk minimization may also come up as a legal issues especially for the users in the categories of software vendors and software developers. One of the most common forms of issues that are associated with Open Source Software are the security issues. The source code of the software becomes available to all which makes it possible for the malevolent entities to exploit the same by using methods, such as hacking and virus attacks. For instance, the organization is thinking over the usage and implementation of MySQL software as the database tool. There is a critical MySQL vulnerability that recently had an impact on almost every version of the software[3]. There were malware codes that were injected in the configuration files of the software that allowed the attackers to gain entry to the server on which the database system was running. There is another attack that is being successfully attempted by the attackers which is called the Drown attack. This is the security vulnerability that has an adverse impact on HTTPS and other services that are associated with Secure Socket Layer (SSL). The encryption mechanisms that are applied on the files are broken down by the Drown attack along with other security protocols[4]. In case of occurrence of any of these or other forms of security attacks, there is a lot of damage that is done to the open source software along with the information sets that are associated with the organization. It, therefore becomes the accountability and responsibility of the management to develop and implement the measures to avoid such security issues. Most of the open source software come with poor documentation which makes it difficult to understand the features and functionalities of the software. Due to the lack of proper documentation, it becomes necessary for the management to provide additional trainings for the employees to make them understand the features of the software. There is an additional cost and effort that is spent in this activity. Issues in the Transition Process The transition process in the adoption of an open source software for an organization includes a lot many steps and stages. There are certain pre-requisites that must be completed before the initiation of the transition process. The first and the foremost step shall be the planning and analysis activities that must be completed. There shall be an implementation plan that must be set up in advance by the management which shall be followed during the process of transition. It would also be required to ensure that the compatibility analysis of the software with the application platforms implemented in the organization is carried out in advance and there are positive results achieved in the same. Feasibility studies on the parameters of technical, operational and financial feasibility must also be done so that management has a complete account of the success of the process. The assessment of the risk areas and their treatment procedures must also be made. The transition shall begin after the completion of the above steps. The transition approach must be a phased approach rather than Big Bang Implementation of the software. This is because of the reason that the success rate will be higher with such an approach. There can be a number of issues that may come up during the transition process which have been listed below. Adopting and making a transition to the open source software will introduce numerous changes for the organizations and its members of the staff. These changes may become difficult to deal in case of absence of a change management plan. The changes may also have a negative implication on the productivity of the employees which may bring down the reputation of the organization[5]. The existing set of processes and methods may be affected by the transition process in association with the open source software. It is because of the reason that the other technical tools will be required to be integrated with this software which may bring down the working of the other tools. During the initial stages of transition, there may be many security vulnerabilities that may be created. These security vulnerabilities and loopholes may be used by the malevolent entities to give shape to the security risks and attacks. In this manner, the organizational information sets and applications may be put at risk. The customers prefer the business units and organizations that have a smooth functioning and the ones that are always available. However, in the case of transition process associated with the open source software, the availability and smooth functioning of the business may get impacted in a negative manner. These transition issues can have some of the extremely severe impacts and it may become difficult for the management to deal with the same. Comparison between OSS Proprietary Software Point of Difference OSS Proprietary Software Cost This form of software comes for free of cost. There are certain utilities that may be required to be purchased additionally; however, the cost of such utilities is also negligible[6]. There is a huge initial investment that is required to be made at the time of purchase. The updates may also be chargeable in this case. Level of Support There may not be a consistent support promised and offered by the vendors of OSS. It becomes the accountability and responsibility of the vendor to provide support to the users in case of any query or technical assistance. Development Process It is not ensured that the development process will be carried out or not. Consistent feature development of the software is offered in this case. Stability and Reliability This type of software offers lesser reliability and stability to the users. It is more stable and reliable in nature as compared to OSS[7]. Vendor Lock-in Vendor lock-in is not possible in this case making redistribution easier and also makes the software more flexible. The vendor owns the software and the entire ownership and authority is in the hands of the vendor in this case. Point of Failure There is no single point of failure and the detection of the bugs can be done easily. There can be a single point of failure present in this case. There are set of pros and cons that are associated with OSS as well as proprietary software. Open source software offers many benefits to the business organizations and users. The primary benefit is in the form of the costs as these come for free of cost. There are also additional benefits offered in the form of flexible solution, no single point of failure, no vendor lock-in etc. Conclusion The choice of open source software shall be based upon the organizational needs. The start-up and small scale units can go for this form of software as it comes for free of cost. These software packages can also be acquired by the business units that do not wish to put complete ownership of the software on the vendor.
